Doing Better

I'm feeling better now. I'm not as hot all of the time, but I am really tired. Mommy and Daddy keep making me take medicine ALL the time, but at least it tastes ok. I am hungry a lot, too.

I didn't get to go to swimming lessons today. I like swimming. We don't go enough. I haven't gotten to go to school either. I miss Hayley and Josh. I hope they don't forget me.

She's Alright!

For those who were there or have heard, the first and most important thing is that Mercedes is alright!

The second thing, I hope to GOD that I (and anybody I know) NEVER has to go through that (again).

For those who love 'Cedes and will be concered when you read this, first and foremost, she's fine!

She has been having cold-like symptoms and fevering off and on for a few days, but seemed to be on the mend yesterday. She was not overly hot so I had not given her any Tylenol. About 3:20 she had a febrile (fybrile) seizure for about a minute to a minute and a half. During that time she stopped breathing for afew seconds and turned blue. We had already called 911, but I didn't know if they would be there in time and I was scared. I tried to get my neighbor who is getting ready to start her residency in a few months, but she wasn't home, so I went to the next one thinking (hoping) that she had been a med tech. She hadn't but she was a heck of alot calmer than I was and I am eternally grateful for that. She took Mercedes and seemed to know a bit more of what was going on than I did. The fire dept arrived shortly thereafter as Mercedes started to come around. They were wonderful as were the EMT's who arrived after that. Mercedes was very (very) upset and didn't even get to appreaciate the fire truck or ambulance ride. All of the neighbors who were there were wonderul. They helped me take care of Mercedes, Alexis and Mom who had also had a set of paramedics called since she couldn't breathe, but that's another blog.

We (Mercedes and I) were transported by ambulance to the Children's hospital where we stayed until around 11:00 last night. They found an ear infection, ordered medicine, suggested we keep her dosed with Tylenol, and sent us home. I think that ANY temperature over 99.5 will be treated with Tylenol or Motrin until it's gone from now on!

We spent the night making sure she stayed dosed, slept, and was not too hot. She had a 102 temperature this morning, but took her medicine and wanted to watch Scooby Doo. Daddy's holding her and taking care of her. She was quite normal last night and seemed to have no serious side effects. She was grumpy about being woken up during the night, but has been requesting water and taking her medicine like a big girl.

A few facts, just in case you wanted to know.
* This happens to about 3% of children ages 6 months to 6 years.
* It can happen when there is sudden rise or fall in bisy temperature (their little thermometers don't regulate well).
* It can happen even on medication if the meds aren't controlling the temperature.
* It's most likely a one time occurrence.
* Some kids have it happen more than once, but overall it's a one-time bad deal.
* There are generally no side-effects unless the child seizes for more than 5-10 minutes, and/or stops breathing for a significant period of time.
* They don't teach you about this in CPR or other child care classes.

Thank God for everyone who helped. 'Cedes is safe and seems to be perfectly normal despite scaring everyone out of 9 lives.

Bye Bye April

April ends this week. I hope that means we will get to go outside more. It snowed this weekend so we were stuck in the house all day Saturday. Except for swimming lessons. I liked swimming lessons except they wouldn't let me play in the water very much. What's up with that? I don't need someone to hold my hand in the water when I have floatie thing to hold me up. I know how to kick and blow bubbles, and jump in and lay on my back. I can even go under and I don't cry. I can crawl out of the pool WITHOUT help. I'll just have to cry until Mommy or Daddy take me to play for longer.

Mommy and Grandma took us to the circus yesterday. They had bears, and motorcycles, and people who did flips and stuff. When I grow up, I am gonna do flips like the guy in blue did. I got a Scooby Doo balloon and a Spider Man light too. They are cool. I'm trying to get Daddy to let me take them to school. Mommy won't say yes, and she won't ask Daddy for me, but maybe I can sneak it by him.

I have 'Nastics today so it's gonna be busy. I have school first and I don't think I will take a nap. There is just too much to do.

It looks like it will be nice out today so I will get to go outside and play too. I will have to take another shower when I get home though. I like to roll around in the dirt and Mommy says I am grubby. I don't see anything wrong with a little dirt, but I guess Daddy doesn't like sand in his truck.

I need to get going. I am trying to convince Mommy and Daddy that I don't want to go to school today. That will take a while.

My Busy Life

It sure has been a busy week. On Sunday, we went to church, then to the BX to grab something to eat, then to get our haircuts, then to the store to pick up something for the neighborhood bar-b-que, and then the bar-b-que. We played outside until 7:30 or so, mostly on the neighbors trampoline. That was fun. I did a flip with everyone watching.

I was really tired.

On Monday, I had to go back to school which was ok. I like playing with Josh and Hayley. I went to gymnastics after school and thatwas rough. I had to go to the dr in the morning, and she gave me three shots (vaccinations) so my legs were sore and I was grouchy.

On Tuesday, more school, then we had to go to Lexi's school for sturent led conferences. There was nothing to do and Mommy wouldn't let me take all of the stuff out of the desk. There were pencils and books and erasers that I wanted to play with!

We actually did not have to go anywhere on Wednesday, but it was rainy out so I couldn't go outside to play. Mommy let me take a long bath and play in there, so that was ok. Then we watched Scooby Doo before going to bed. It was one fo the new ones, so that was cool.

Thursday night was busy too. Mommy picked me up from school, but instead of going home, she took me to a "class". It was to teach me how to be a good big sister. We got to wrap the baby in a blanket, hold the baby, put a diaper on, feed and burp the baby. They gave us juice and cookies too with goodie bags. They also showed me where Mommy is going to go to get Mason. It was cool, but they wouldn't let me play with everything becuase I have germs and they don't want me to make the other babies sick. I tried to get Mommy to get Mason last night so we could bring him home, but she said he was not ready. I wish he were ready, I will let him play with my toys.

Slow Week

I get to go to swimming lessons with 'Lexi on Satruday mornings. And Mommy and Daddy don't have to go in the water with me becuase I am a big girl. We went swimming this week, but we didn't get to play very long. Daddy went with us, so I got to play with him. He game me a pink tube so I could swim on my own, even though my feet didn't touch the bottom. Momy says we will get to go again too.

It's been really nice outside so I have been getting to go outside and play a lot. That's pretty cool, except Mommy and Daddy won't get my jeep out. Mommy said she would get it out this weekend. We are suppsoed to have a neighborhood bar-b-que this weekend, so that should be a lot of fun.

Daddy Did It

Daddy made us go to the Dayton auto show today and he wouldn't let me drive any of the pretty cars. I tried though, and that was fun.

Before we left Daddy had put supper in the crock pot so it would be ready when we got home. Well, when we got home, supper was not ready. The crock pot wasn't even plugged in. Daddy had unplugged it to plug in the can opener so he could open the mushrooms that went into the crock pot. He forgot to plug in the crock pot. We went out to eat. I didn't mind that since I got a strawberry smoothie out of it.

On the way home a car with flashing lights making a loud noise was behind us. I told Daddy to go faster, but he wouldn't listen to me. Then he slammed on the breaks beucase he almost ran a red light. And they say women are bad drivers.

Alexis and I like our new bed still. Mine is bigger than Alexis, but hers is on top. I wanted to be on top but Daddy said NO. I have plenty of room for my stuffed animals and blankets though, so I am pretty happy. It's big enough that I can play on it as much as I want, though I can't jump on it like I do Mommy and Daddy's bed.

I don't mind sleeping in my bed too, though I don't get why Mommy thinks I should go to bed at 9:00 at night. I'm not ready to sleep until well after 11:00.

I offered to give Daddy a back rub a few days ago. I even said he could come lay down on my bed as long as he slept in his own bed. He's too big to share with, and he steals the blankets and my Care Bear. How am I supposed to sleep without my Care Bear?

It's been bad enough this week that Daddy, Mommy, or Grandma picked me up from school and forgot to bring Care Bear home. And they wouldn't go back either. They are so mean.

It's started to warm up here so we have gotten to play outside a couple of times. I love riding my scooter and am getting fairly good at it. I wanted Mommy and Daddy to get my jeep out, but they wouldn't do that. I tried to convince Daddy to let me take my scooter to school, but he was mean and said no.

Mommy says I am growing again. She complains that all of my pants are "high-waters". Whatever that means. I get tired of my ankles being cold, but other than that I don't see a problem. Mommy says it's good that it's summer time so I can wear shorts and she doesn't have to get me more jeans. I think she just complains too much.

Mommy, Grandma, and Alexis are going to a "Baby Shower" for big girls tomorrow. Daddy and I get to spend "QUALITY" time together. If that means I'm stuck with him and he's still got gas, I don't want anything to do with "QUALITY" time.

Mommy, Daddy, and Grandma are going to go somewhere next week, so I won't have gymnastics. Alexis and I get to stay home with a babysitter and eat pizza. I am going to try to get her to let us watch Scooby Doo all night long. I love Scooby Doo.

Finally, I started back to school this week. Spring Break was really long and I got used to sleeping in, so it's been hard getting used to getting up. I got to play with all of my friends, and they didn't forget me. That was really cool. I like school.
